"Do the financial risks add up to a constant number?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-12-01 15:15:12

I am a former Executive Director of the World tip (2002-2004) for Costa Rica. El Salvador. Guatemala. Honduras. Mexico. Nicaragua. Spain and Venezuela and I write this blog to try to echo my voice and my go. Though I know that many will only be able to read it in yellow or blue. I do alter an effort to write it in green. The Radical Middle or the Extreme bear on is not any wishy-washy place to be in a world where swimming to any of the ideological shores provides for a much calmer shelter. I am no physicist and one my biggest frustrations is how little I really get to understand of what the greatest thinker that has coincided with my life span. Albert Einstein explains. Therefore I might be completely off the wall when I refer to having heard something like that the mass of the university though it can take many shapes is by the end of the day always a constant number. Nonetheless these line of thoughts undergo lately crossed my more financially oriented mind when exposed to facts that seems to suggest that no be what we do with the risks no matter how we avoid them no matter where we hide them at the end of the day their amount could remain a constant. If this proves change by reversal then it must have great implications for how we design or perhaps even abandon our efforts to design our regulatory systems. At least it would not be so easy for our current bank regulators to go into their total immersion of risk adverseness expecting to be applauded if we knew that all they were doing was pushing the risks around. Latin American is currently living the tragedy of having been trapped into a dilemma of believing it needs to pick between Bush and Chavez. It needs all the help it can get to break lose from that and so please don’t tell us more it is either the one or the other or behave as you cannot evaluate there are some better alternatives.

"Pointlessness" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-10-12 13:03:09

More random pointless thoughts on pointlessness following up my post on Thursday about the quest for the... I'm beginning to wonder if there really is any field of human activity that is so tiny so irrelevant so abstruse so meaningless that it isn't of fascination to some not insignificant number of people. Can there be such a thing as a totally pointless blog if at least one person other than the reader finds it interesting?Clearly the two blogs that I picked as examples don't qualify as pointless at all. Some of my own readers who by self-selection are the smartest and most discerning blog readers on the planet found and to be of some merit. "Amazing". "incredible". "wow" were some of the accolades. And something else I had failed to notice. The writers of these two blogs are not lone voices in the wilderness. If you look at the links on these two blogs you will see that they are both members of whole communities of bloggers devoted to writing about observed examples of specific mistakes in punctuation or typography and coins found on the ground respectively. Clearly these folks don't find these subjects pointless at all. So is there a blog out there that is so pointless that nobody ever reads it nobody finds it interesting? The question reminds me a bit of the zen-like question as to whether there is such a thing as an uninteresting number. Many numbers are interesting... 2 is the first even prime. 3 is the number of spatial dimensions in which we live. 4 is the smallest number of colors sufficient to color all planar maps... and so on. Even much larger numbers can be interesting. For example. 1729 is known as the Hardy-Ramanujan number after a famous anecdote of the British mathematician G. H. Hardy regarding a hospital visit to the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. In Hardy's words: "I remember once going to see him when he was ill at Putney. I had ridden in taxi cab number 1729 and remarked that the number seemed to me rather a dull one and that I hoped it was not an unfavorable omen. "No," he replied. "it is a very interesting number; it is the smallest number expressible as the sum of two cubes in two different ways."Hello anybody still there? Does this seem extremely pointless? Where was I? Oh yes. So lots of numbers are interesting in this sense. But surely not all of them? There must be way too many numbers for them all to be interesting. Aren't some of them dull?Well let's suppose that every number up to 37 say is interesting. Then 38 would be the first dull number. But that is an interesting thing about 38. It would be the one and only first dull number. That's really interesting (if you like that kind of thing). OK then 39 must be the first dull number. But wait. If 39 is the first dull number then that's really interesting. And so on. And so on. So there's no such thing as an uninteresting number. So if there is such a thing as the Most Pointless Blog in the World wouldn't that be an amazingly popular not to say interesting blog? People would write about it and link to it. The author would be a celebrity. He or she would almost certainly get a book deal to publish the posts written in the Most Pointless Blog in the World. The book would become a best-seller. After all. Jerry Seinfeld created one of the most popular most successful TV series of all time by writing scripts that were.. about nothing. Totally pointless. But then Jerry deliberately wrote about nothing. Can we allow the winner of the title of Most Pointless Blog in the World to be written by someone who is trying to be deliberately pointless? For example how about ? This is dedicated to the proposition that blogs are pointless so you shouldn't read them... Stop reading right now. Go away. You don't have the attention span the intelligence the sheer will to read the below information regarding the pointlessness of blogs so cease and desist reading immediately. This isn’t a joke. Go away. The counter at the bottom of the page is about 10x the amount of people who even know about this page. This is for me and me alone; my public declaration to the deaf and dumb the ignorant masses who don’t even deserve the chance to know they’re wrong; and you are one of them. The message is simple: STOP READING BLOGS. Or perhaps our winner should be someone who achieves meta-pointlessness by becoming a portal for all other pointless blogs. A bit like which describes itself as the Premier Portal of Pointlessness. Also in the category of taking things to extremes we have Louie who declares that. Louie is an atheist nihilist anarchist pessimist misanthrope. The blog discusses the origins of the universe and life evolution religion the purpose of life death and so on. You don't have to agree with any of his views to find his blog interesting and provocative. So paradoxically it's not a pointless blog at all. (Unless of course Louie is right and everything really is pointless.)I haven't been sailing for almost three weeks not since. I do hope my back injury heals soon. I'm not sure my readers can stand many more pointless posts like this one. FWIW visitor 112,000 to this blog comes from New Jersey and arrived here from the Intensity Sails website. He or she stayed for 4 mins and 22 seconds and looked at and one other page. I know the above is totally pointless. That's the point. I love your pointless post here. Captain Tillerman! heh hehThe internet let alone the world of blogging is full of what at first may seem trivial useless information. But for someone someones' junk is another's treasure. I guess. The fact that you haven;t been out for three weeks onto the water is not pointless - it's devestating! Look after yourself and I hope your back heals up nicely quickly. CyalaytaMal :) I am a grandfather who sails a Laser. Even though I am over 60. I suffer under the delusion that it is not too late to discover how to sail smarter and faster. In this blog I write mainly about sailing and my endless pursuit to become a better sailor. Read this blog if you want to learn from my mistakes -- there are plenty -- and to share in the fun of Laser racing Tillerman style. Best sailing blog on the planet - Edward from I believe you may be delusional - AnonymousHalf the time I don't know what the hell the Tillerman is talking about - Joe Rouse from Sir you are completely insane in the most wonderful way - Bonnie from Tillerman - You have a very twisted sense of humor - Dan Kim from Unique brand of mutant genius - Raps from You are a total nutter - Adam Turinas from

"The Prisoner: It?s Your Funeral" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 16:51:11

is a 1967 British television series starring Patrick McGoohan as “Number 6,” a top-level government agent who resigns his post. As a result he’s kidnapped and imprisoned in “The Village” where his captors wish to interrogate him for “information.” The series documents Number 6’s repeated escape attempts and the progressively more extreme methods employed by his captors to break his will. Next we see The Village using computers and behavioral analysis to predict Number 6’s next move. A lady with a color hat and cape is in rush of this project. It’s predicted that Number 6 will go to a kiosk and buy a newspaper soap and a bag of sweets. Number 2 is skeptical of this result saying Number 6 never eats sweets. But it turns out Number 6 does buy candy - for an old woman as a gift. Number 2 is impressed. We’re next introduced to - (an odd sport invented for the television show). Two men wearing red robes gloves and ride helmets bound on trampolines. The goal is to throw your opponent into a pool of water. With Number 6 busy playing kosho a Village agent sneaks over to his locker and swaps his watch for a broken one. Upon discovering this. Number 6 pays a visit to a watch shop to undergo it repaired. While there. Number 6 notices a device on the bring home the bacon bench that is a trigger and a lever - a remote hold back trigger of an explosive device. The watchmaker says the device is nothing and prods Number 6 to leave. It turns out the watchmaker is the father of the girl that earlier snuck into Number 6’s accommodate. An assassination of Number 2 is in the works. What’s interesting is Number 2 is behind it - and deliberately revealing it to Number 6. The murder will occur on Appreciation Day a celebration of Number 2 with the explosive hidden in a large medal. Number 6 decides to inform Number 2 of the assassination plan. Number 2 says he’s not worried about the attempt because his people are monitoring watchmaker and consider him a “jammer” - a Villager that makes up assassination plots that never come of anything. The conversation is recorded by ever-present cameras. The next measure Number 6 visits Number 2 it’s a different person. This Number 2 reviews the attach of Number 6 warning the younger Number 2. There are various Number 2s receiving the warning - obviously faked. What’s the cerebrate for this? It seems the previous Number 2 was plotting the assassination of the Number 2. The leaders of The Village are revealed to be jockeying for power among themselves - or perhaps previous Number 2s are killed in order to keep secrets from leaking. The tape is meant to brush aside Number 6’s warning. During Appreciation Day the old number 2 looks noticeably agitated and worried. The young Number 2 communicates with his accomplice via a communicate. The watchmaker observes from afar in a tower via binoculars. Just as the explosive is put onto the old Number 2’s pet. Number 6 confronts the watchmaker and takes the detonator away. The seal is taken off of the other Number 2 and put on the younger Number 2 who rushes through the speech afraid it ordain explode at any moment. Number 6 tells the older number 2 to board the helicopter and leave The Village before he can be stopped. I open this to be a rather confusing episode but it does sets up an interesting situation where the Number 2s are manipulating each other. Eventually as Number 6 gets involved he turns the tables despite the confine laid for him and uses his found knowledge to show up The Village once again. The one oddity is Number 6 warning Number 2 about the assassination plot - I didn’t expect him to do that and instead thought he would connect in. Second the kosho sport is truly bizarre and I found that scene rather a waste of time. But overall yet another enjoyable episode. Yes he does say he’s worried about the repercussions against the citizens of the village. Personally I open that kind of out of character as in previous episodes he talks about wanting to undo the village (change surface after he escapes). Of course we are getting to the point in the series where Number 6 has likely decided he’d like to undo the Village from the inside and everything anybody says can’t be taken at face value

"The Number #1 Movie" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-29 21:54:30

Say what you ordain (and most of you undergo) about Bee Movie but it’s that it will take the number #1 slot this weekend at the U. S box office its back up week of channel. It’s on bring in to bring in over $100 million by Thanksgiving pass. I’m not looking to go away another go bashing the film - I liked it and yeah. I wrote the schedule so I’m a bit biased - but I be to agree with that success leads to more health in our industry and hopefully to more diversity in affect be and visual styles in future animated films. You can add my congratulations to all the artists involved. Jerry - Bee Movie and all involved be due praise regardless of any contradict reviews. Agreed … it’s success is our success. However it brings to object your negative slant in a past CB post on the latest ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks’ … the same day I read of a young artist’s genuine excitement of her ‘first hire’ on the production. I did not have any involvement on either enter but I suppose knowing people that did brings some amount of “bias.” As a professional community we all undergo our vastly differing tastes and sensibiliies. (I know I do.) You have an incredible amount of traffic at CB veterans and particularly those that be after in this industry. We appreciate your support. The only thing this proves is that you don’t be original storytelling or compelling narratives to make money. You can slap a big name voice cast and some generic character designs and a big ad race and just rake in the bucks. You know they’re making a sequel to Madagascar right? And two MORE Shrek films? I query if that’s because of the great ‘health’ of the industry? I’m so very grateful for all the ‘diversity’ of films coming down the pipeline. Oh what a time to be alive. Well despite its awful marketing campaign. I’m glad the buzz for it paid off as it had a tough contend with “American Gangster” these past 2 weeks. And I’m happy it did exceed than Fred Claus which thankfully bombed. I think Bee Movie and Gangster will still battle next week. I don’t see Bewolf being a threat to it. Despite my very very low expectations for the movie. I gotta say I actually enjoyed it. The parts with the bees anyway. Once the story left the hive the more ‘bland by comparison’ designs of the humans and human environments didn’t conclude as change and inviting as the hive world. But laughs and genuine interest in the characters developed by the end of the enter so I gotta say I was not dissapointed. Unlike Shrek 3 which actually put me into a mind numbing appeal mid-way through and I had to turn it off before my hit fell out of my communicate. Oh and the art book was really neat. It’s always nice to see work from some of my favorite artists even if what they do isn’t always translated onto the screen. Well said. Jerry! And I might add that with more and more animated films out there the more cater we undergo to choose one enter over the other. That’s democracy in the marketplace. Does anyone bequeath the 70’s when it was “The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Movie” or nothing? Pessimistic commentors need to look at the films coming to our theatres from other countries the accumulate of classic Hollywood toons getting first-class DVD treatment not to mention all the bonus material on disks ubiquitous “art-of books” animation blogs and festivals and conventions. Today’s aspiring artists be in a world Mike Barrier could only dreamt of when he started Funnyworld approve in the early 70’s. My apologies if I’m monologuing again. label this an animation fan’s Thanksgiving blessing. I get Variety in my telecommunicate box and even THEY say this rarely occurs if EVER. A movie that people have low expectations for does what they consider the impossible by beating out Gangster. I expect Bee Movie to go drink again next week but my best congrats to them anyhow. Hey. Jerry said not to make this a bashing thread. So could you lay off your maim sacrasism and bashing for this enter? If you don’t like the enter than don’t see it but gratify Jerry asked kindly not to make this another bashing go. If there is one thing I learn from animated films is that “If can’t type anything nice don’t write anything at all” (okay. I choose of exaggerated that but it’s the same thing. The only thing the success of this movie will carry is more movie stars out of the woodwork to create the next big animated feature. The more these maim big label movies get made the good movies written by actual animators will be passed up. And more and more good voice actors ordain be out of jobs. So not only do you have to sit through a bland movie for an hour but you undergo a splitting head ach from Chris move back and forth screaming the whole time. I’m happy it’s a success. I thought it was very funny and it had good story dialogue and voice acting (what Renée Zellweger’s performance did for the engrave was amazing). I quite liked the visuals too (loved the mock of Ray Liotta) but if I had to dress something it would probably be in that department. Anyway it probably should be the third movie to be nominated along with The Simpsons Movie and Ratatouille (though Persepolis should win the best foreign enter allocate). Actually the four films are good enough to win some choose of award and that can’t be said about the movies selected in previous years. It had been a pretty good year for animation. Thad Komorowski says: “The masses have no comprehend”. But but but…the “Rat” movie is making gazillions! Can’t undergo it both ways…actually you can it just sounds bad. As stated…it’s all good…people are working. You don’t undergo to love everything just be glad your peers are experiencing good fortune. But what do I know…I have no taste. I liked the enter. I accept with Joe. A lot of good movie scripts are being passed over because they are original and innovative. All I’ve seen lately is rehashed animation and stories with big name stars who don’t have the voices to displace a movie. Much of the dialog from the “B” movie is dialog straight out of a dozen other movies. When are these studios going to do something truly original. The thing is a bad movie is a bad movie. And a lot of populate myself included think this is a bad movie. There’s no doubting the talent that made it…some of the best in the world. But by now a lot of people see it as “just another animated animal movie” From what I know they were working on another animal movie about kangaroos called OUTLAWS but it was cancelled i’d be interested to know just how many animal themed movies they cancelled. I honestly accept they only reason BEE MOVIE wasn’t cancelled was Jerry Sienfeld and his celebrity that got it through. Because alot of these animal movies draw upon a familiar formula ( including hiring Patrick Warburton to do the same express he does in every movie and cartoon show ) I liked Bee Movie too. I went to see it solely because of Seinfeld’s involvement but didn’t evaluate too much (the be of the movie kind of put me off). As a result I was very pleasantly surprised at how genuinely funny it was–a lot.
